Freshman Singer and Guitarist Wins Votes at ‘South River Idol’ Competition

Last week, South River High School singers took on singing pop songs to see who would become the next “South River Idol.” The competition is the school newspaper’s main fundraiser. They charge each audience member $5 at the door.

By the time of the live show on Wednesday, faculty judges had winnowed the list down to a top ten list who performed one song each. From there, judges named a top three. The top three sang another song for the audience, who then voted for their favorite.

This year the winner was Paul Packett (’15)—the only freshman in the competition—who took home the title of South River Idol and various prizes. Lexie White (’12) and Emily McDonough (’12) rounded out the top three.

Here is a list of the remaining contestants: Kylie Myles (’13), Nick Depietro (’14), Shanelle Smith (’12), Angel Ogorek (’14), Al Esfandari (’13), Kira Carroll (’12) and Tanner Piekarski (’13).
