Photos: Davidsonville Green Expo Lures Loads of Locals
If we could’ve looked at Davidsonville from space on Saturday, it probably looked greener than usual. That is because it was the third annual Davidsonville Area Civic Association Green Expo, where local merchants and vendors set up booths to help residents “go green.”
There were energy products like solar arrays and geothermal drilling companies, rain barrels available for purchase and Eco-goats who help clear invasive species without the need for heavy equipment. There were giveaways, including trees and recycling bins plus activities for the children like face painting.
The South River Source had a booth (we’re green because we don’t print or make deliveries of our publication). We had a prize wheel and mystery boxes that included prizes from local businesses like Killarney House, Greenstreet Gardens, Homestead Gardens, Renaissance Yoga, South County Cafe, the Hunt School of Irish Dance, and the Davidsonville Country Market.
Many thanks to Lara Mulvaney who tirelessly sets up the Green Expo each year. Thanks also to the local businesses who supplied our prizes and the door prizes to expo attendees.
But most of all, thanks to the hundreds of people who stopped by the booth to chat. It was a great way to get out from behind the computer and meet our readers.
- Barbara Freeman was one of the winners of our “mystery box” prizes. She took home half a dozen cupcakes from Davidsonville Country Store. Yum!
- Loretta Kelly of Davidsonville, who won a mystery box at the South River Source booth. She selected a $50 Greenstreet Gardens gift card and basket as her prize.
- Students join principal Jean Marie Hofstetter (Davidsonville Elementary) on a tour of the Green Expo in Davidsonville on Saturday.
- The rainbarrels were ready to go (no assembly required). People could take them home and get them set up easily.
- Chesapeake Bay Foundation was represented at the Green Expo in Davidsonville.
- Another mystery box winner, Karin Tachenberger, who won a pie from the South County Cafe in Deale.
- Jackie Abend of Davidsonville ponders the mystery box prizes.
- The rainbarrel components are pretty simple. Rainwater goes into the barrel instead of becoming stormwater runoff, a major polluter of the Chesapeake Bay and surrounding tributaries.
- Cynthia Giorgio (L) and Mitchelle Stephenson, co-founding editors of South River Source with their Green Expo booth on Saturday.
- Of course, the kids loved to pet the kid.
- Rainbarrels wait to be claimed.

- The Green Expo had a little something for everyone, like facepainting for children.
- Savannah Thompson won a mystery box and selected a $25 gift certificate to Homestead Gardens.
- Students from the Davidsonville Elementary booth visited the South River Source booth and got balloons and spin on the prize wheel.
- Eco-goats can be delivered anywhere brush needs to be cleared. They eat just about anything!
- People wait in line for a rainbarrel at the Green Expo.
