Time to Take the Trash Out—of the River at Bluejay Branch

The West/Rhode Riverkeeper sent photos of Saturday’s spring cleanup at Bluejay Branch. The cleanup was part of Project Clean Stream. A group of volunteers ultimately collected 600 pounds of trash, 15 tires, a can of kerosene, a bucket of oil and 2 ceiling fans from the stream along Muddy Creek Road.

“The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center is pleased to partner with the West/Rhode Riverkeepers on this project, which is a fine example of public participation in environmental stewardship and consistent with our goal of promoting sustainable land use practices.” said Pat Megonigal, the Deputy Director of SERC.

Many thanks to Joe Ports for sending these photos to The Source.
