County PTA President: Celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week
As president of the Anne Arundel County Council of PTAs it is my honor to join thousands of communities across the country celebrating PTA Teacher Appreciation Week, which starts Monday (May 7 to 11).
This special week honors the dedicated men and women who lend their passion and skills to educating children. PTAs across the county are celebrating with events that are part of a national effort to call attention to the outstanding contributions teachers make to individuals and communities.Â
Education experts have concluded that giving teachers the status and recognition they deserve as professionals is the best way to improve education in this country. As a father of two wonderful teenage students, I see the result of a passion for teaching in our local schools every day.
I can remember the teachers that had great impact on my life. We all know of exceptional teachers. We should always recognize that there is a great deal of good work being done in our schools. This week is an opportunity to celebrate that realization.
PTA expanded on First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt’s idea of National Teacher Day which was established in 1953. Now, an entire week is dedicated to the celebration and accomplishments of educators.
Please reach out to the teachers that have made an impact on your life and perhaps those of your children. Thank them, send them a card, a flower, a gift card or just a handshake or a hug. Not only will you make their day, I bet yours will be a little brighter too!
