High School Playoffs: South River and Southern

South River Seahawks

On Friday, the Seahawk girls found a win in playoffs.

On Friday, the boys and girls lacrosse teams at South River both found victory at home.

The girls played first and won 18-14 against Arundel; the boys won 14-6 against Calvert County’s Northern High. Both teams move on in the regional tournament.

The boys lax team will play at home tonight (Monday) at 5:30 p.m. against longtime rival Severna Park. If they make it past them as they did in the regular season, they will follow that game later this week by challenging the winner of Monday’s Arundel vs. Chesapeake game. The Friday win continued the boys winning streak. They’re now 16-0.

Not to be left behind, the Seahawk girls lacrosse team is 13-3 heading into their regional semifinal, also against Severna Park. In the tournament, South River was seeded first while Severna Park seeded fifth. Their game is at 7:30 p.m. at home. They will play the winner of Broadneck vs. Leonardtown, also playing on Monday.

In baseball, the boys will face Old Mill on Monday at 4 p.m. at home. On Friday, the Seahawks bested Broadneck, 9-1. Pitcher Scott Mitchell pitched five innings, allowing just one run. Austin Wright took over on the mound and held Broadneck back over two innings. In the fifth inning, South River’s Nick Sia helped to add three runs to the scoreboard with a two-run double and an error (www.SouthRiverAthletics.org for further details).

In softball, the girls took out Meade Senior High, 11-0 on Friday. Emily Bucknall hit a triple in the first inning to get things going.
