Girls in kindergarten through eighth grade are encouraged to come and learn about this fun, fast-paced sport.

Field hockey players from South River High School along with current DAA players and coaches will be on-hand to introduce the girls to the game. Stations will be set up where girls can learn how to dribble, drive and push-pass the ball.

A limited number of sticks will be available. Mouth guards and eye gear are recommended, but not required. Drop-in to participate, observe or talk to the coaches.

The DAA girls field hockey program runs from mid-August through October. Registration for the 2012 season opens the second week of June. Evaluations  for the middie (fifth and sixth graders) and junior (seventh and eighth graders) level will be held this summer pending registration and coach availability.

DAA field hockey coach Kristen Higgins encourages those interested to stop by on Thursday.

“I can’t tell you how many times parents of first time players have told me how happy they are that their daughter(s) signed up to play field hockey,” said Higgins.  “As a player from way back in the day and a current coach, I wish that every girl would try it at least once.  There is just so much to love about this game and I hope we have a lot of girls come out and give it a shot.”
