A kinship care cookout is planned for June 19.

Kinship Care is when grandparents raises a relative’s child. The Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services is offering a Kinship Care Support Cookout from 5 to 8 p.m. on June 19 at Lake Waterford Park in Pasadena.

The family-fun event will be held rain or shine. Food will be served. Bring folding chairs and have a good time meeting others in the same situation.

According to a media release from the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging, the event is sponsored by the Anne Arundel County Partnership for Children, Youth and Families. The Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services established the Kinship Care program in 2010 to assist family members on a short-term basis to access information and to obtain a resource manual. The program is a joint effort of the county’s DSS, the Department of Aging and Disabilities, the Department of Recreation and Parks, the Board of Education

, and most recently the Partnership for Children, Youth and Families.

Reservations are requested by June 15. Contact Diana Taylor or Shay Brooks at 410-222-7423.
