SCYA Elects New Board, Summer Baseball Tourney and Fall Sports Registration is Open

South County Youth Athletics elected some new board members at their June meeting. They also announced that they will be hosting three summer baseball tournaments in August. In addition, registration is open for fall sports: soccer, field hockey, baseball and volleyball.

English: A baseball that has been extensively used

Baseball tournament begins in August.

As with any organization, a core group of hard-working volunteers are needed to keep things running smoothly. As the largest youth athletic association in south county, SCYA needs 26 individuals to serve as a board of directors, commissioners for each sport plus someone to line up volunteers for the snack shack, registrations, photos and the newsletter.

Luckily, some kind souls stepped forward to serve, although they still have a few vacancies, including:

  • Secretary
  • County Girls Soccer Commissioner
  • Clinic Soccer Commissioner
  • Clinic Basketball Commissioner
  • Picture Coordinator, and
  • Newsletter

The new crew includes Joe Canter as Baseball Commissioner. Ed Carney comes in as Soccer Commissioner—with assistance from Kelly Baker. Bill Collinson is stepping into the Boys Lacrosse Commissioner job.

Congratulations to all of the people who keep sports programs alive for our children.

Summer Baseball Tournament

SCYA is hosting three summer baseball tournaments in August—the South County Slam Fest. Go to the SRYA baseball page for further details. Each tournament is limited to eight games, one Friday game, two games on Saturday and single elimination games on Sunday. Balls and umpires will be provided. There will be one tournament in each of the following age groups:

  • 10U (Aug. 3 – 5)
  • 12U (Aug. 10-12)
  • 14U (Aug. 17-19)

Games will be played at Shady Side Park, Old South, Traceys Park and Southern High School.

Players, parents and the SCYA board want to send a shout-out to Bryce and Beverly Duvall for their years of running the county and CBA baseball programs for SCYA.Enhanced by Zemanta
