VIDEO: South County Relay for Life

The Relay for Life event on Friday night into Saturday morning brought hundreds of fundraisers together to raise money for the American Cancer Society. To start the event at South River High School, survivors took a “survivor’s lap.” From there, organizers and participants keep someone walking the path all night long.

They walk to raise money. They walk to raise awareness. The walk to raise hope. They walk to encourage research. They walk to celebrate success.

Rain didn’t dampen the spirits of those raising money. Typically, the event is outdoors, but this year they were able to move it inside as thunderstorms passed overhead.

The event included dozens of mini-fundraisers, people selling erasers and water bottles, feather boas and back massages. Sales represented dollars going to the American Cancer Society.

If you didn’t attend, you can still contribute. As of Monday morning, they have raised more than $86,000. Follow the link for more information and specific group and individual fundraising tallies.
