One Boater Missing, 4 Rescued After Vessel Overturns in Stormy Weather
According to a media release from the Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) –
A search operation is underway for a missing boater who’s vessel overturned in stormy weather off Chesapeake Beach last evening. The missing person, identified as 28 year-old Angel Ayala Cerros of Alexandria, Virginia, went missing after his 12 foot vessel capsized during high winds, heavy rains, and rough sea conditions.
These fierce storms blanketed most of the Maryland area last evening at approximately 10:30 p.m. Four other occupants of the vessel were rescued at approximately 4:20 a.m. after being located by United State’s Coast Guard. The capsized vessel was later found about mile from shore.
NRP investigators discovered that the four survivors rescued were wearing life jackets at the time of the accident; however, Cerros became separated from his life jacket during the accident.
An aerial search has been completed in the area, and search operations continue for Cerros with the assistance of the United State’s Coast Guard, The Charles County Fire Department and the Anne Arundel County Fire Department’s Side Scan Sonar Units. NRP’s Special Operations Division continues to investigate this incident.
