Spectacular Independence Day Celebrations Set in Galesville, Shady Side and Herrington Harbour
Despite the horrific storm that passed through last Friday evening, 4th of July celebrations in Galesville, Shady Side and Herrington Harbour South are moving forward full speed ahead.
Galesville Heritage Society parade coordinator Charlie Kidd said there are about 300 entries in the Galesville parade this year including antique cars and fire trucks; classic cars and tractors; floats; bicycles; and equestrians from Oak Crestriding stables in Harwood.
The parade officially starts at 1 p.m. Kidd suggests arriving early to secure a parking space and spot to view the parade. Bring a picnic lunch and make an afternoon of it. Judging of the entries takes place at noon on Anchors Way.
The Shady Side Independence Day Parade starts at 10 a.m. The parade route begins at Cedarhurst Road and ends with a flag raising ceremony at the Shady Side Community Center at Snug Harbor Road. There are some 60 entries in this year’s event.
Herrington Harbour South will set off it’s firework display tonight at 7140 Lake Shore Drive in Friendship. The excitement gets underway at dusk.
It’s been quite a week with power outages and hot, sticky weather. Take some time to enjoy the day off and Happy Fourth of July!
