D’Ville United Methodist Youth Group Repair Homes Damaged by Hurricane Irene

The following article was submitted by the Davidsonville United Methodist Church:

The Davidsonville United Methodist Youth group recently traveled to eastern North Carolina to help repair homes damaged by last year’s hurricane Irene.  Eighteen youth and ten adult chaperones brought hammers, levels, paint brushes, and roofing materials to repair the physical damage left by the damaging wind and rain.

Through their physical labor, this team of volunteers repaired and replaced roofs, scrubbed damaged floors, painted the interior of houses, hung dry wall and replaced flooring. The work was hot, dirty, tedious and demanding but through it all, they brought their willingness to serve this community desperate for help and hope.

Throughout the small towns of Pamlico County, NC, the group was welcomed with love and appreciation.  Anyone that has been through a major disaster knows that faith based organizations are critically important to disaster relief.
