Help Edgewater Volunteer Firefighters Raise Cash for New Home
Firefighters at Woodland Beach Volunteer Fire Department are preparing for the 2012 Bayside Festival on July 28 at the Bayside Inn. The event will feature bands and an auction and will raise money for the fire company’s future home on the corner of Routes 2 and 214 in Edgewater.
The benefit starts at noon and runs until 1 a.m. Bands will include Bayside Soul, Past Tense, 8 Ball, MC Blues Band, Declassified Band and the Travis Adams Band.
The Woodland Beach Volunteer Fire Department has called their fire station on Londontown Road home for decades. It is old and outmoded. It isn’t big enough to fit modern firefighting equipment including trucks and ambulances. The last piece of equipment required them to modify the building so that the truck now squeaks into the space. There are no places for them to expand for parking—except across the street.
With the growth that the Edgewater area has seen in the past ten years, the fire station has not been able to keep pace. Their building was built to accommodate a population with hundreds of homes. Now there are thousands.
And so, the fundraiser.
They have a long way to go in their fundraising efforts, but every bit counts, so they put on events like the benefit concert.
Auction items that will be available include sports memorabilia like Joe Flacco signed photo, a Ray Lewis signed mini helmet, a Cal Ripken signed helmet, a baseball signed by Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg and more. They will also have non-sports related items for auction and raffle at the event.
