Cub Scouts Learn Skills, Have a Little Fun a Camp Tomahawk
The Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds in Crownsville was the site last week for a gathering of hundreds of cub scouts who had gathered from all over the county.
The week-long celebration of scouting, “Camp Tomahawk,” lured more than 600 scouts in all. Included among them were scouts from Edgewater and South County.
During the week, campers learn fire safety, whittling, fishing and camping. They also learn about science, the environment, gun safety, archery, leadership and comraderie said scouting mom and volunteer Melanie Wanner.
Wanner said that firefighters from the Anne Arundel Fire Department stop by with their fire truck to spray the kids for a (very welcome) afternoon shower.
Wanner said that she was impressed with the number of volunteers who turned out from Edgewater. In fact, the Edgewater scouts had such a high turnout of leaders and parents that rather than staying within their own pack, volunteers ended up being combined with other scouts.
