Central Elementary Office Remains Open Despite Road Closures on Campus

Principal Jan Haberlein at Central Elementary announced Thursday that the main office will remain open despite the campus being closed to cars.

The parking lot at the Edgewater school is being expanded and paved, hopefully eliminating the dangerous car-rider drop-off and pick-up environment that had developed over the years. There will also be additional spaces, eliminating the need for cars to park along on the sports fields.

But, in order for county workers to complete the final stage of the project, they will close the Central Elementary parking lot and the side road from Stepney Lane to Central Special until Aug. 16.

Parents will get a fresh look at the new parking logistics on Aug. 24 during Sneak-a-Peak. The work should be completed by then.

For now, parents, staff, mail carriers, delivery drivers and anyone with business at Central Elementary will need to park either at South River High School or Central Special to get to the main office. Entry to the office remains the same.  To get to the school from South River, follow the path adjacent to the stadium. To get to the school from Central Special, follow the sidewalk through the trees.

In addition, entry to the campus of Central Special and South River will only be available from the intersection of Mayo Road and Central Avenue in Edgewater (not from Stepney Lane). To get to Central Special from the intersection, keep the stadium to the right and follow the road around to enter the Central Special parking lot from the east.

Students return to school on Aug. 27.
