Updated: Police Search for Vehicle Involved in Fatal Hit and Run on Sunday Morning

UPDATE (Aug. 14,, 4 p.m.) The identity of the victim has been released by police. He is Kendrick Lamont Richardson, 37, of no fixed address.

UPDATE (Aug. 13): On Sunday night, Anne Arundel County Police spokesman Lt. Michael Brothers issued an update on the case. The victim, a black male, has not yet been identified. The driver, however, turned himself in at Southern District Police Station in Edgewater on Sunday. Police say he is Stuart Sohovich, 20, of Millhaven Drive in Edgewater.

According to the release, police seized Sohovich’s 2003 Volkswagon for processing. According to court records, Sohovich pled guilty for a January 2012 traffic citation for doing 76 MPH in a 50 MPH speed zone on Southern Maryland Boulevard in Lothian.

Police are consulting with the States Attorney’s office before charges are filed. 

ORIGINAL STORY (Aug. 12): A male pedestrian was killed Sunday morning in a hit and run on Solomons Island Road north of Harwood Road. Police are searching for the suspect vehicle, a 2003 Volkswagen Golf, MK4, which should have significant damage to the passenger side including the grille, bumper, windshield and mirror.

According to a press release from Anne Arundel County Police Department spokesman Justin Mulcahy, officers from the Southern District responded to a report of an unresponsive male lying off the edge of the roadway around 7:24 a.m. Sunday morning.

The release said when officers arrived on the scene, they located a fatally injured pedestrian.

The investigation determined the individual was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling northbound on Solomon’s Island Road. The vehicle fled the scene of the crash after striking the pedestrian.

It appears the pedestrian was obeying the rules of the road but was wearing dark clothing at the time he was struck.
