Homestead Gardens Tomato Festival is One Juicy Event

This Saturday (Aug. 25), Homestead Gardens will stir up some fun at its Fourth Annual Tomato Festival and Chesapeake Chili Cook-off Contest.

This family-friendly event features everything tomatoes including the tasty Salsa Competition and the ever-popular Fastest Pizza Eating Contest sponsored by Ledo Pizza in Edgewater.

The Chesapeake Chili Cook-off is open to individuals, restaurants, and organizations where they will compete for the top prize of $1,000, as well as more than $250 in gift cards to local businesses, and the coveted People’s Choice Chili Trophy. The entry fee is $25.

The Salsa Competition has two categories: one for individuals and another for restaurants/caterers. The entry fee is $10.

The Ledo Fastest Pizza Eating Contest is free to all participants. Just bring your appetite. Registration for each category is open up until the day of the Festival.

The festival begins at noon and runs til 6 p.m.  Attendees will also sample fresh tomatoes, enjoy live musical entertainment, and may purchase additional food and beverages such as pizza and barbeque.

Individual tickets cost $10, and family tickets for up to four people cost $25, with children under 10 admitted free of charge. The ticket price covers admittance to all areas of the Tomato Festival, including the three competitions, entertainment, and food sampling. Tickets can be purchased at both Homestead Gardens locations in Davidsonville and Severna Park.

Profits from the Tomato Festival and Chili Cook-off will benefit Wellness House of Annapolis.
