Update: Two Killed in Overnight Crash on Patuxent River Road

Update (Sept. 1: 3 p.m.).Anne Arundel County Police Department spokesman Lt. James Fredericks announced that the two victims of the Friday night car crash on Patuxent River Road, succumbed to their injuries. The driver, Carrie Lynn Desmond, 36, of Davidsonville died at 6:30 a.m. on Sept. 1. The passenger, an unnamed 14-year-old boy believed to be the driver’s son, was pronounced dead at 1:15 pm. on Sept. 1.

According to information gathered from a 2008 obituary for her brother, Desmond’s parents live in Davidsonville. She also has a sister, Amy, who lives in Georgia. Tragically, Desmond’s brother, Timothy Desmond of Davidsonville, died as a result of an automobile accident.

Investigators determined that the accident happened at 10:03 p.m. The car that Desmond was driving, a 2012 Ford Focus, was headed south on Patuxent River Road. Police say that Desmond failed to negotiate a curve in the road and hit a tree. The car had significant damage and the two victims had to be extricated from their vehicle by Anne Arundel County Fire Department personnel.

Police investigators do not believe that speed or alcohol were factors in the crash, but the investigation is ongoing.

Previous Report: About 10:30 p.m. on Friday night, a single vehicle crash seriously injured two people. A man and woman were airlifted to Shock Trauma with serious, life-threatening injuries, Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman Lt. Cliff Kooser said Saturday morning.

The accident took place in the 3700 block of Patuxent River Road. This is south of Central Avenue but before the intersection with Queen Annes Bridge Road. The car hit a tree. The two people had to be extracted. Both were believed to be in their 20s.

The victims were not identified. This is a winding section of road with few streetlights. In April, five were sent to the hospital when two cars collided at the intersection of Central and Patuxent River Road.
