NICU Families ‘Strut Their Stuff’ at Fashion Show in Edgewater
On Sunday, September 9, a host of former NICU (neo-natal intensive care unit) moms and their children will run, jump, skip and dance their way down the “catwalk” to support Isabel’s Gift, a local non-profit organization founded by Davidsonville mom Christa Grim.
This first-annual mother-daughter fashion show and “Endless Summer” benefit reception will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at Shore House Gardens, a new waterfront facility located at 1022 Turkey Point Road in Edgewater.
Editor’s note: South River Source is a sponsor of this benefit.
At the event, former Anne Arundel Medical Center NICU children and families will showcase the latest in fashion trends provided by Annapolis clothiers’ South Moon Under and Wheat USA. Hair and make-up for the models will be provided by premier salon Hudson & Fouquet.
Grim’s daughter Isabel, now 10 years old, ended up in the NICU with a cardiac condition. Once home, Grim decided she wanted to give back and founded Isabel’s Gift. Since 2004, the organization has helped more than 3,000 families at AAMC, and more than 1,000 families at Johns Hopkins University Medical Center.
The NICU moms and daughters said they are excited about the fashion show and are gearing up for the big day.
“It’s our way to say thank you,” said Jessica Manchester D’Auria, mother of four-year-old NICU graduate Emelia. “So many of us endured incredible fear and anxiety when our babies were in the NICU, and we are fortunate they are healthy today. AAMC provided excellent medical care and support, and Isabel’s Gift helped us learn to cope. Together, they made the ordeal bearable, and it’s our turn to give back.”
The tickets are $75 a piece or $125 a couple and may be purchased at www.isabelsgift.org .
