Blog: Football is Back and All is Right with The World Again

Go ahead, you can exhale. The interminable wait is finally over.  Breathe a big sigh of relief, fellow die-hard fans, because NFL footballis back.

English: Dallas Cowboys kicking off.

With training camp and four meaningless preseason games behind us, last night was our night.  The night we finally came alive after another long, boring, football-less off-season.  Yes, I know the Olympics were exciting, and baseball has definitely turned out to be a lot more fun than usual around here.

But if you are like me and you simply exist from the end of one football season to the beginning of another, you know what I’m talking about.  Last night’s NFL Kickoff game showcasing the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys left me nearly giddy with excitement (even though I am a Redskin fan).

We’ve endured another long off-season. Another NFL draft. Another set of mini-camps, training camps, cut-down days, and that awful fourth pre-season game even I don’t ever watch (and I’ll watch nearly anything football-related).

Now, it’s time to finally welcome back the game we all know , love, and missed terribly.  Welcome back, Al Michaels and Jon Gruden, into my living room.  Welcome back, Sunday Night Football, Monday Night Football, and a full Sunday afternoon of game-watching.  Welcome back, buffalo wings and that ridiculously fattening Frito dip I only make during the NFL playoffs.

Yup, fellow fans, I AM ready for some football.  I’m ready for 24-7 football. Good football, bad football, and semi-OK football.  Fantasy football. Football pools. Football-jersey Fridays. Football arguments in the bank line.  Football flags flapping and waving on cars around town.

It’s time. We’ve been patient.  We’ve paid our dues.  We all filled our summer days as best we could.  And now, the long off-season is over.  Football is finally here.

Are you ready for football season? Do you have high hopes for your team this year?
