VIDEO: 9-11 ‘Spirit Day’ Planned at Central Middle School

Two 8th grade students from Central Middle School decided that 9-11-2012 should be a “Spirit Day” at their Edgewater school. Nothing new about that. However, spirit days typically revolve around a football game or other event.

Emily Sorrells, 13, and Karinna Cave-Hawkins, 14, cleared their idea with their parents and then the principal.

They wanted the Spirit Day to honor hometown hero Patrick Feeks, who died in August in Afghanistan—and who was returned home to Edgewater last week.

The principal readily agreed and the girls posted signs throughout the school building asking fellow students to wear red, white and blue and to write either, “Patrick Feeks,” or “Feeks,” or “PF” on their hands or arms in Sharpie marker. Principal Millie Beall helped out by reminding students in the announcements in the days leading up to Sept. 11. Here is their story:
