Winter Sports Signups Ongoing for Four South County Rec Leagues

Wrestling is available through SRYA and SCYA.

Basketball and wrestling signups are now underway for Deale Shorebirds (DSB), South River Youth Athletics (SRYA) and Davidsonville Athletic Association (DAA) and South County Youth Athletics (SCYA) Below, please find information on each, culled from each respective website. Winter sports typically run from November to late February.

Deale Shorebirds (click for registration page)

Basketball: Deale Shorebirds 2012-2013 basketball registration for clinic and county play is open until Oct. 31.

• Beginner Clinic: 4 and 5 years old ($60)
• Advanced Clinic: 6 and 7 years old ($60)
• Pre-County: 8+years old $65 (basket height is 10 feet)
• Anne Arundel County Rec and Parks: 8 years and up: ($90)

Due to the large number of registrations, it may be impossible to honor requests for teams or coaches. The Shorebirds will make every effort to place your child on the appropriate team, but placement is not guaranteed. Shorebirds Basketball Hot-Line 410-867-7653, Commissioner Cherie Gibson.

South River Youth Athletics (click for registration page)

Basketball: South River Youth basketball evaluations will be open until Oct. 14. Evaluations will begin the week of Oct. 15.

• Junior Clinic Ages 5 ($75).
• Senior Clinic Ages 6-7 ($75)
• Anne Arundel County Rec and Parks: 8 and up ($100)

Uniforms: Shorts are required for county play ($30); Practice jerseys are required, except high school players ($13).SRYA basketball teams practice in the gyms at Central Elementary, Central Middle, Edgewater Elementery, Mayo Elementary and South River High School. South County Youth Athletics (click for registration site)

Wrestling: SCYA Storm’s wrestling program is the feeder for Southern High School’s wrestling program. The youth component starts at the 45-lb. division and goes up to 185-lb., roughly ages 4 to 7 for Clinic and ages 8 and older for the Anne Arundel Rec and Parks County. SCYA invites children with special needs to join in as well. There will be tournaments for the wrestlers to participate in. Practice runs three-nights-per-week at Southern High starting in early November. An equipment and uniform rental deposit of $40 is required. Basketball: Registration ($90) closes Oct. 21. Evaluations begin on Oct. 22. Anne Arundel County Rec and Parks level teams are for boys and girls ages 8 and up (including high school play). A game jersey and shorts will be supplied to each player for a deposit of $50. Play runs roughly November to February. Practices and games will be held at Shady Side Elementary, Tracy’s Elementary, Lothian Elementary, Southern Middle or the South County Recreation Center.
