Join in the Friends Foundation Too Jammies and Jackets Jamboree on Sunday, Oct. 21.

Mayo Elemntary’s school counselor Traci Boone has been involved with the Jammies and Jacket project since its inception in 2008. Boone said that the Friends Foundation Too has collected more than 700 jackets and nearly 200 pairs of pajamas for children throughout the area including South County.

According to Boone, the Friends Foundation Too is a spin off of the Friends Foundation, an Annapolis based non-profit organization formed by a group of young friends who came together to raise money for those in need.

As the “Friends” own children started getting older, their parents wanted to get them involved with charitable works in the hopes of graduating them into the Friends Foundation one day.

“Children may not recognize the power of a dollar but clearly  understand the importance of making a sandwich for someone who is hungry or giving someone a coat who is cold,” said Boone. “Through Friends Foundation Too, we are showing  kids that caring and giving back is fun.”

If you cannot roller skate don’t fret. Anyone can show up with a a stroller, scooter or anything on wheels and take a turn around the rink. No reservations are  necessary just come and have a great time.

If you cannot make Sunday’s event but want to donate a new coat or pajamas email fftoo@verizon.net

“A lot of these families never get anything new,” said Boone. “It’s a wonderful feeling to know that we can give them something that’s jut for them.”

The Skate Zone is located at 1082 Route 3 in Crofton.
