High School Fall Playoffs Postponed and Rescheduled

Hurricane Sandy interfered with several playoff games that were set for Monday and Tuesday evening. On Tuesday, games times were rescheduled, and those we could track down are in the story to follow. Please note that normally free games may now require ticket purchase at the gate (typically $5).

To start, the regional quarterfinal game for Division 4A East Boys Soccer is set for Wednesday (Oct. 31) at 4 p.m. at South River’s Seahawk stadium. The 4th seeded Seahawks will face 5th seed Chesapeake High.

At 6 p.m., the South River Girls Field Hockey (2nd seed) team will face Broadneck (5th) on the home field. Last week, South River beat Great Mills 10 to 1 to continue in the regionals. The Lady Seahawks met Broadneck twice this year (one pre-season, once regular season) and won both games 2 to 1. The girls are undefeated in county play.

In Harwood at 7 p.m., the Southern High School Girls Soccer (4th seed) team will play Patuxent (4th) in the next round of the Division 2A south tournament. This home game will pose some traffic problems because the parking area adjacent to Wingate Field is a muddy mess. Park in the main parking lot and walk around the baseball field to get to the stadium. Do not park on Harwood Road or walk down Harwood Road in the dark. It is dangerous.

Back at Seahawks stadium at 8 p.m., the SR Girls Soccer (2nd seed) team will play Severna Park (7th). This quarterfinal game could be a replay of the Oct. 17 regular season game, where the Seahawks beat Severna Park 2 to 0.

After Wednesday, other playoff games will be on the home fields.

South River Football (5th seed) will play Old Mill (2nd) on Friday.

Also on Friday, Division 2A Southern Football (8th) will play first seed Division 4A Arundel (1st) at home.

The canceled Cross Country meet has been rescheduled for Friday.

South River Volleyball will play on Monday. They are 3rd seed, and will face the winner of Glen Burnie vs North County game at 5 p.m. at home. Southern Volleyball (4th seed) will take on Oakland Mills (10th seed) soon. A game time has not been announced.

Southern High Boys Soccer (8th seed) will play 1st place Central High in the next round. A game time and location has not yet been announced.

The Southern Field Hockey team is out of the contention in the playoffs. Both South County football teams are likely also out of a playoff berth. South River is ranked fifth in Division 4A while southern is ranked eighth in Division 2A. Only the top four teams from each region and division move on to the championship series.
