DNR Makes Arrests in Rash of Boat Battery Thefts in AA County
In a news release, the Maryland Natural Resource Police (NRP) said that they have made arrests in a case involving boat battery thefts in Anne Arundel County.
The report said that NRP officers obtained a warrant and arrested Ryan Andrew Valunas, 18 of Pasadena, on Sunday. On October 24, Cody Jay Tyler Dudley, 21 of Pasadena, who was arrested on October 24. Dudley and Valunas were suspects in a lengthy investigation. Dudley admitted to NRP officers that he was involved in stealing more than 20 marine batteries.
NRP now has a collection of stolen batteries being held as evidence. Anyone who had a boat battery stolen between late July and early August should call 410-295-4600 between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Batteries do not have any identifying characteristics, so NRP suggests that boat owners etch their Maryland registration number into their battery so that it can be identified if stolen.
If you have already reported a battery theft from earlier this summer, contact the NRP office at the above number. Any additional information from victims may help in the prosecution of these two suspects.
