Friday Afternoon Rollover on Bayard Road Sends Elderly Woman to Shock Trauma
A 70-year old woman was sent to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center on Friday after the vehicle she was driving hit a tree and rolled over, according to a media release from Lt. Doyle Batten of the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
Police were called to the scene around 2:30 p.m. Friday on Bayard Road near Polling House Road in Lothian. There they found Audrey Ann Gray of Edgewater with critical injuries. Anne Arundel County Fire Department paramedics treated Gray at the scene before she was flown by helicopter to University of Maryland Hospital Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore where she remains in critical condition.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident, Batten said. Their initial investigation revealed that Gray was driving westbound on Bayard Road in a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox when she failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. The Chevy went off the road, hit a tree and overturned onto the roof, the report said.
The Anne Arundel County Police Traffic Safety Section was dispatched to the crash scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation. The investigation is on-going. Police do not believe at this time that excessive speed was a factor in this crash.
