Thanksgiving Day Run For Pies—and Car Show—at the Davidsonville Market
The Davidsonville Country Market will hold its second annual Pie Run on Thanksgiving from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Co-owner and baker extraordinaire Frannie Thompson and her husband Chas said more than 100 cars showed up last year and they expect the same this time around.
Now if you’re not sure what a Pie Run is, we’ll tell you. Thompson said some customers have asked if it’s a 5K race where runners run with a pie.
A Pie Run is a car show where you spend a couple of hours hanging out with your classic car and car-enthusiast buddies and before you go home, you pick up a pie.
Pie Runs were originally a way to get husbands out of the house—and out of the kitchen—on Thanksgiving morning. The car enthusiasts arranged to get together under the auspice of “running to pick up a pie.” They hung around with their classic cars before picking up the pies and heading home. Over time, this Thanksgiving Day “errand” evolved into a tradition with men and women from all over the area meeting up on Thanksgiving morning to admire classic cars.
Frannie said the staff is prepared for this year’s Pie Run and will serve a hot breakfast including homemade chipped feef, eggs, toast, potatoes and a choice of meat for $6.50; or pancakes, sausage and eggs for $5.50. Coffee will be free.
The first 50 people to arrive will win a prize including gift certificates from the Davidsonville Country Market, shirts and hats donated by local businesses, scratch off lottery tickets and more.
Anyone is welcome to stop by and see the cars, enjoy breakfast or pick up a delicious, homemade pie made by Frannie – that’s if there are any left. Frannie said only a limited quantity will be for sale on Thanksgiving Day.
