If you are a little worried about how much turkey you might be tempted to eat next Thursday, why not spend the morning getting in a little bit of exercise. It is a perfect reason to participate in YMCA’s Camp Letts 2012 Turkey Chase 5k and 10K in Edgewater. It takes place on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 22) starting around 7:30 a.m.
Registration for the race is open at Active.com. The setting for the race, is on Camp Letts property along the Rhode River. It is the perfect venue for a morning run in the fall.
This the the 13th annual Turkey Chase. It is the largest attended event at Camp Letts every year, with over 800 participants. Turkey Chase proceeds help deserving and underprivileged children attend summer camp and other YMCA Camp Letts programs and activities. Camp Letts has provided land and water adventures for generations of children going back 100 year. Last year, Camp Letts provided over $290,000 in tuition.
For safety purposes, headsets and in-line skates are not permitted. There is a strict “no pet” policy on the Camp Lett’s property, so please don’t bring your dog for running or if you’re out to cheer someone on.
The race course is along wooded scenic trails. It is possible you might even see a wild turkey at the chase. Runners will run on a portion of property owned by the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center. The course has markers on every mile.
The fee for registering is $25 for the 5K and $30 for the 10K. Same day registration is $10 more for each race.
Garnering additional pledges of support will help Camp Letts. If every registrant got just $100 in pledges, over $800,000 could be raised on a single morning. If you pledge $100 to $499, you receive a commemorative Camp Letts Shirt. For $500 to $999 in pledgews, you get a commemorative Camp Letts Mug, and if you get $1,000 or more in pledges, you get a commemorative Camp Letts Blanket.
