An Old Fashioned Tree Trimming Party at Capt. Avery Museum
Tree trimming and a visit from Santa. What could be more fun on a Sunday in December? Not much. The Capt. Avery Museum will offer a Children’s Tree Trimming Party from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 2 at the museum, 1418 EW Shady Side Road in Shady Side.
Admission is free. Refreshments will be served and crafts will be created.
Santa will arrive to hear what the boys and girls want to see under the tree or in their stocking. The program will give the children the opportunity to celebrate the holiday in the fashion of the era. There will be an old-fashioned taffy pull. Children will be permitted to take home the craft items they produce. There will be stories and songs of holidays past in the Old House parlor.
As they have in years’ past, the festivities will take place in the Great Room, which will be decorated for the holidays. This program has been ongoing each Christmas for over 20 years.
The Capt. Avery Museum is the restored home of Capt. Salem Avery, a waterman who lived on the property in the 1860s.
