Get Your Gifts Wrapped and Ready! Santa Run Through Edgewater Set for Sunday

The stops are mapped. The Santa suits are out of storage. The antique fire vehicles have been waxed and polished, and where-needed, borrowed from other fire stations.

The Santa Run is on for Sunday.

Woodland Beach Santa Run is set for Sunday.

The Santa run is an evening event, where the Woodland Beach Volunteer Fire Department volunteers drive fire trucks—each equipped with a red-robed, white-bearded Santa—around to each neighborhood in Edgewater, collecting presents for local children in need.

At the end of this story, we have included a chart of the Santa Run’s neighborhood-by-neighborhood schedule.

When Santa comes into your neighborhood, you (and your children/family) give him a wrapped gift, with the age, size and gender that the gift would accommodate. There should be no hanging tags. Please write the information on the outside of the wrapped package clearly.

The children in need that get these gifts can use pretty much anything—from new clothes to toys and books. Select items for boys, girls, toddlers, tweens, teens and anything in between.

This year, the volunteers will also collect items for their firefighter and rescue brethren in New York and New Jersey who were hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. That recovery effort is ongoing.

Santa rides on each truck and greets everyone who comes out for a hug and a candy cane—even those who don’t or can’t contribute a gift.

As in previous years, they are also collecting non-perishable food items and gently used coats, hats and gloves for adults and children. These items should not be wrapped.

If your neighborhood is not on the list, it is too late to be added for this year, but visit the Woodland Beach VFD website and leave an email for the chief about next year. Leave the name of your neighborhood, your name and phone number.

If you miss the Santa Run on Sunday, the station will also take contributions on Dec. 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Dec. 8 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Please note that the later stops may be delayed if there is a large turnout earlier in the evening.
