Get Fit in the New Year with Classes at the Senior Center

Get your dancing shoes on! Tap and jazz dance will be offered at the Senior Center in January.

The South County Senior Center will be offering a number of classes through the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks. The classes will be held at the Senior Center, 27 Stepneys Lane in Edgewater. Classes are open to any member of the center. Center membership is free and open to members of the community 55 and older.

The classes begin in January. Registration is required. To register for classes, follow this link. There are fees for the class that are paid to the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks. Here is a brief summary of each offering:

  • Beginning Tap Dance Class - An introduction to the basics of tap. No experience needed. The instructor is Vicki Smith, and the class will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, beginning January 8. The fee is $40 for eight weeks.
  • Jazz Dance  – All levels of experience welcomed.  The instructor is Vicki Smith; the class will be held from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. on Fridays, beginning January 11. The fee is $40 for eight weeks.
  • Creative Crafts – Various techniques are used in this class including sewing, needle crafts, painting, decoupage and plastic mesh. Many projects will have a holiday theme. There are two class times to choose from on Mondays, either 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. or 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. The classes begin January 7. The fee is $40 for eight weeks. Evelyn Bacon is the instructor.
  • Aquacise at Arundel Olympic Swim Center – This water exercise program is conducted in warm water to improve flexibility, mobility and range of motion and to boost stamina. The class will take place at the Arundel Olympic Swim Center, 2690 Riva Road in Annapolis. The classes are 11 to 11:45 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. The cost is $40 for the eight weeks beginning January 7.

You may register in person at the South County Senior Center with a check or money order. You may also mail a registration form along with a check or money order to AACo Recreation & Parks, 1 Harry S. Truman Parkway, Annapolis 21401. Registration forms can be found at the welcome desk at the center.
