Heavy Rain and Wind Moving East Through Area; Power Outages Reported

A fast-moving weather system moving through Anne Arundel County on Thursday night may have been responsible for power outages in Annapolis, Edgewater and other parts of South County.

There were reports of a green to bluish colored light in the sky. That may have been the light from a transformer or substation, or may have been from lightning strikes. Another possibility is “ball lightning,” which can often be unpredictable and is often the cause for unexplained activity in the sky.

The Annapolis Mall, the Annapolis Town Center and Anne Arundel Medical Center were left without power.

Some reports included Crownsville, Herald Harbor and parts of Millersville in the outage area.

Power has been reported flickering at BWI airport.

Police and fire appear to be going on routine calls, but no major catastrophes at this time.

BGE has announced that they are anticipating an active weather system with rain, lightning and strong winds to impact customers in the coverage area.
