Crash on Central Avenue Sends One Man to Trauma Center

Anne Arundel County Police Department spokesman Justin Mulcahy released information regarding Tuesday night’s crash along Mayo Road/Central Avenue at Shoreham Beach Road in Edgewater.  The call came in just before 10 p.m.Anne Arundel County Police Department

Mulcahy said that police believe that the driver, Floyd William Pearl, Jr., 30, of South River Clubhouse Road in Harwood had been traveling north (police say north, but Central Avenue is an East/West route), when he veered off to the right, then over-corrected. At that point, the vehicle began to spin. It crossed into the other lane, then hit a pole and came to rest on the opposite side of the street.

Pearl was driving a 1998 Honda CR-V. Police and fire personnel believe that Pearl was not wearing his seatbelt when the crash occurred.

He was flown by Park Police helicopter to Shock Trauma in Baltimore in critical condition.

The investigation is ongoing through the police department’s Traffic Safety Second. Mulcahy said that  initial evidence suggests that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the cause of the crash.
