VIDEO: SRYA Baseball ‘Winter Workouts’ Are a Warm Up to Spring Training

Registration is open and underway for South River Youth Athletics (SRYA) spring sports, including lacrosse, baseball, softball and spring soccer. Baseball added a new program this year, Winter Workouts, that started last Sunday and will run until March 3. Baseball players 5 to 15 can sign up for the Winter Workout program as a prelude to Spring Training.

The weekend of the first Winter Workout, Kansas City Royals scout Mike Toomey to give a pep talk to coaches and to help with the boys at the first workout. Here’s a video of the workout:

The Friday before the workout, Toomey gave a pep talk to coaches, were he talked about the importance of training and skills. He also elicited a few chuckles with his stories about major league baseball and players. SRYA baseball commissioner Dan Moltz said, “it was truly a worthwhile event and the audience would’ve stayed all night to hear Toomey if they could have.

The winter workouts are for baseball players from 5 to 15 years old and will continue through March 3. For further information email Dan Moltz, commissioner.
