VIDEO: Another Old Maryland Barn is Lost in Lothian Fire
A plume of heavy smoke rose in the midday sky over Lothian on Thursday. The source of the smoke was an old Maryland barn that was on fire. It was a total loss. Anne Arundel County Firefighters were on the scene for a couple of hours and brush teams were called in to keep the fire from spreading to the heavy vegetation at the siteāan old sand and gravel quarry.
The South River Source went to the scene to get video footage of the blaze. Firefighters had it under control quickly, but simmering hot spots and the threat of a spreading brush fire kept them busy. The winds weren’t helping, at 10 to 15 MPH, it was enough to lift embers and carry them a few feet away. With homes surrounding the gravel pits, a spreading fire could have been dangerous and disastrous.
Still, yet another old Maryland barn has been lost.
