BLOG: Workout With a Friend to Keep Your Fitness Goals on Track
I have been working out with my fitness trainers at Results U in Edgewater for about four months. I see them once a week, and I am loving the workouts and the challenge.
Recently I started training with another person. At first I wasn’t sure about pairing up with someone else; but I am extremely pleased with the decision. My trainers set me up with another member that is at the same level, or slightly more fit, then I am. What I’ve learned from working out with someone else is that it challenges and pushes me harder than if working out alone.
Let’s be truthful, we all have a competitive side whether we admit it or not.
I recently went and got re-assessed. I am not going to lie, I was a bit nervous because with the holiday parties, I was feeling as if the results might not be there. The good news is that all of my numbers moved in the right direction.
My weight went down, although that was not my goal. My cardiovascular assessment was in the very good/elite range, up from very good. My bicep strength test stayed the same in the good range, but I increased the weight I was able to lift and moved higher in that category.
Flexibility was low for both. Admittedly, I need to incorporate yoga into my weekly routine. My body composition decreased by close to 1 percent and is in the low category.
My recent successes were in part due to training with someone else. It motivated me and pushed me beyond my comfort zone.
So, if you are considering training but are nervous to take the first step, enlist a friend to do it with you. Not only will you hold each other accountable, but you will challenge each other as well.
Summer is right around the corner, so grab a friend a get started today.
