Dance for 8 to 15 Year Olds at Londontown Hall Saturday to Help SRYA Cheerleading
Tweens and teens 8 to 15 years old are invited to attend a Valentines Dance at Londontown Hall on Saturday. The event is a fundraiser for the South River Youth Athletics Cheerleaders. The fun gets underway at 7 p.m. and ends at 10. There is a $7 entry fee and there will be snacks for sale.
In addition, there will also be a Sweet Frog yogurt fundraiser from noon to 10 p.m. benefiting the same cause.
Tickets can be purchased from an SRYA cheerleader, or at the door.
SRYA Cheerleading has competed at three competitions so far. There are 60 girls on four different teams—10u , 12U, 14U and the senior team. SRYA is open to both sideline cheerleading and competitive cheerleading.
Registration for both is open to children three to 17 years old.
Sideline cheerleaders cheer during football games to entertain, motivate and promote team spirit. These cheerleaders will chant and participate in basic tumbling and stunts. They also perform during homecoming.
Competitive cheer mixes elements of sideline cheer with athleticism, more gymnastics and dance components as well as synchronization of movements. All of these things require hard work, good sportsmanship and team dedication. During competitions, teams compete against other squads with routines that include jumps, cheers, dance, tumbling, stunts and gymnastics. This is all performed (or choreographed) to music. The team members have really got to work together to make it work.
Most of the competitions that SRYA participates in are in the state of Maryland, but with time and dedication, they can be invited to attend competitions further away.
