‘Fairways of Faith’ Golf Tourney Seeks Golfers and Sponsors for April Event
If ever there was a golf tournament to interest people in the faith community of South County, this surely must be it. The 17th annual Fairways of Faith Golf Tournament, taking place on April 29 at South River Golf Links in South River Colony in Edgewater. The organizers of the tournament, from Davidsonville United Methodist Churchare looking for sponsors and golfers to play in the tournament.
Local church teams will compete for the “Carpenters Cup,” the coveted symbol of golfing prowess in South County.
The tournament supports DUMC’s Youth Service Project ministry, which responds to the housing needs of the economically and physically disadvantaged people, from a Christian perspective.
With the proceeds from the tournament, the church will send
nearly three dozen young people and adults to Beaufort County, North Carolina this summer. The community still needs help in recovering from Hurricane Irene. In 2011, Irene sat off the coast of North Carolina for two days, pushing wind, rain and damaging flood waters up the tributaries of Pamlico Sound. Many communities suffered in the aftermath of the storm.
Last year, the youth ministry spent a week rebuilding the homes for three families. The help the ministry gave helped the families get their lives back on track. This June, the youth ministry will provide help and and hope to additional families of Beaufort County by helping to rebuild other damaged homes.
