Green Expo Set for Saturday at Davidsonville Ruritan Center
By Elvia Thompson
The Green Team is hard at work at the Davidsonville Area Civic Association in preparation for the 2013 DACA Green Expo, to be held Saturday, March 16, at the Ruritan Club Community Center, 3358 Davidsonville Road, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The free Expo gives area residents a chance to meet with their local watershed groups and other non-profits, their Riverkeepers, and local businesses who offer Earth friendly products and services.
A family-friendly event, the Expo has something for everyone. Adults will enjoy learning about property tax credits that are available when stormwater management initiatives are undertaken at home. Kids will enjoy the Eco-Goats, nature’s invasive species eradicators, and the face painter.
In addition, a poster contest is open to K-12 kids who live or go to school in the Davidsonville area. The theme is “Green Up and Clean Up – How I Make a Difference.”
Last year over 400 people attended the Expo and enjoyed the upbeat atmosphere as they learned about solar power, geothermal heating and cooling, home performance audits, and more. New this year is a display of electric vehicles, brought by their owners who will be on hand to discuss their experiences driving with electricity as the fuel.
Rain barrels will be offered for sale and the County’s recycling team will be on hand with compost bins and recycle bins to give away. Those attending will receive a free DACA reusable bag and a native tree seedling. Local landscapers will be on hand to discuss eco-friendly lawn care and Master Gardeners and Master Watershed Stewards will answer your garden questions.
That’s just a taste of what awaits South County residents at the Davidsonville Area Civic Association’s Green Expo. And yes, food and drink will be available for sale, to be enjoyed to the live music of The Composters!
