Contest to Submit New Name for Calypso Bay Ends July 31

Calypso Bay Boatyard & Grill is changing its name and wants the local community to help pick it.
According to Calypso Bay spokeswoman Anne Garvey, individuals are encouraged to send in suggestions to Info@CBontheBay.com by Wednesday, July 31. The new name will be announced on Monday, August 19.
The re-naming of the restaurant marks a transformation for Calypso Bay. Along with the name change, the restaurant will feature a new, family-friendly menu that offers a farm-to-table and water-to-table concept that will share the bounty of the Chesapeake Bay.Calypso Bay Restaurant
The waterfront tiki bar will serve as the main attraction and will be complemented by dining in the sand and a fire pit.

Want to submit an entry? Here’s some history about the restaurant to help get the creative juices flowing …

  • There has been a restaurant at the Calypso Bay location since at least the 1960s;
  • Previous names have included Bobby D’s, Skipjack and Duke’s Tavern;
  • Tracy’s Landing, where the restaurant is located, was an important tobacco port on the Bay; and
  • Tracy’s Creek  used to be called Herring Creek in the 1600s.

Anyone who sends in a suggestion will be entered into a raffle to win an overnight stay at Herrington Harbour South to include a “hot tub” room, pool access, lunch for two at Honey’s, and dinner for two at the new Calypso Bay (value of $500). Expiration date: December 30, 2014.

Calypso Bay is located at 421 Deale Rd., Tracys Landing, Md. 20779, at Herrington Harbour North Marina.
