This nonprofit educational and cooperative organization of men and women work with wood and want to learn more about the fine art of woodworking. They meet at 7:00 PM on the second Thursday each month at the Davidsonville United Methodist Church, 819 W. Central Ave, Davidsonville, MD 21035. The Guild builds planters, benches, signs, tables and other items for local nonprofit organizations that provide the lumber. This organization provides youth oriented comprehensive professional services to youth for the general prevention of juvenile delinquency. Mentors are needed for youth ages 5 – 18 after background checks and training. Volunteers are also needed for educational and cultural activities for children. AYSB is dedicated to serving as a positive force in improving the lives and well-being of children, by providing, and advocating for, prevention and early intervention programs and treatment services for children, youth, and families. Anne Arundel County Annual Emergency Preparedness Fair, Sat., September 21, 2013
This Fair is sponsored by the Anne Arundel County Office of Emergency Management, Citizen Corps, The Volunteer Center for Anne Arundel County, Lowe’s, and the AA County Local Emergency Planning Committee with the purpose of providing information to the public to prepare it for emergencies. The event will be held from 10 AM–2PM, Sat, Sept. 21, 2013 (rain or shine) at the Lowe’s at Quarterfield Crossing Shopping Center, 415 George Claus Blvd, Severn, MD 21144. There will be demonstrations, information booths, giveaways, activities, emergency vehicles, and food. This nonprofit’s mission is to conserve the landscapes and special places that sustain the Chesapeake Bay‘s unique natural and cultural resources, strengthen the connection between people and the watershed, and encourage the exploration and celebration of the Chesapeake as a national treasure. Volunteers are needed to help with fundraising, including stuffing envelopes for solicitations, donor acknowledgements, and doing online research for potential funders. In addition, administrative support is needed for the Executive Director including help with scheduling meetings, answering telephones, help with emails, and more. Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake is a nonprofit which provides simple, decent, affordable houses for deserving families who currently live in substandard conditions in Anne Arundel County and the Baltimore area. Volunteers are needed to help with construction in the county and Baltimore area. Many support volunteer opportunities also exist for behind-the-scenes staff and volunteers needed off site to fulfill our home building mission. These dedicated men and women prepare low-income families to become homeowners, plan our construction work, promote and publicize our work, fundraise, maintain relationships with volunteers and donors, and manage our finances. For volunteers interested in learning additional construction skills, and are willing to commit to regular volunteer days may want to consider becoming a “Red Hat” (volunteers who serve as construction leaders on build sites). This Edgewater historic site seeks persons interested in history and/or horticulture to become docents, historic interpreters and gardeners at this 17th-18th century tobacco port. Volunteers give site tours, house tours or demonstrate colonial crafts and daily life. They may work in historic or ornamental gardens. Londontown Symphony Orchestra
The mission of the Londontown Symphony Orchestra (LSO) is to provide high quality classical and light classical music concerts for the enrichment and enjoyment of the residents of Anne Arundel County and surrounding areas, and to provide an opportunity for student, amateur and professional musicians to learn and grow under the guidance of a professional music director. The LSO needs volunteers to help with the marketing and promotion of the orchestra. Assistance with writing press releases and newsletters, spreading concert news to print and online media, and promoting concerts in retirement centers and other market concentrations is greatly needed. Peace Lutheran Church
Volunteers are needed to teach English to Spanish speaking residents in Glen Burnie. The program runs from September to April every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Training is provided for anyone that is interested. No prior experience is necessary just the desire to help. The Center is the county-wide clearinghouse for information about volunteering throughout Annapolis and AA County. Volunteers are being sought to participate in Volunteer Mobilization Center Training and Drill being cosponsored with the Anne Arundel County Office of Emergency Management. Both the training and the drill will take place at the Office of Emergency Management, Henry L. Hein Bldg., 7480 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd., Glen Burnie, MD 21061, on Sat. August 10, 2013.
