Police are looking for two suspects in a crime scheme that involves distracting grocery shoppers then stealing their wallets and using their credit cards.

Their operation involves distracting the shopper by getting into a conversation. Then the wallet is stolen. After that, the credit cards are used at other retail establishments.

The photos were taken at recent incidents (July 12 and 14) on surveillance footage at a Safeway store in Hanover.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective J. Golas of the Western District Detective Unit at 410-222-6155 or Metro Crime Stoppers.

Metro Crime Stoppers: If you have information on the above incidents, please call, email, or text your tip to Metro Crime Stoppers Hotline Available 24-Hours A Day Toll Free at 1-866-7LOCKUP or Text “MCS plus your message” to CRIMES (274637). Phone calls are not recorded and callers remain anonymous. You may also be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000!

Editor’s note: Always carry your purse or handbag on your person while at the grocery store. Do not leave it in—or on—the shopping cart. Here in Edgewater, I can’t count the number of times that a person has left their purse in the cart while putting their groceries in their trunk at all three grocery stores. It only takes a second for someone to walk by and snag not only your lovely handbag, but also all your personal information—credit cards, cash and your home address! Stay safe out there. Please don’t give the criminals an easy opportunity to make you a crime victim.
