HOT SHOTS: National Night Out in Shady Side Brings Citizens, Law Enforcement Together

Residents of Shady Side and South County turned out in big numbers on Tuesday for the 20th annual National Night Out. The purpose of the night was to celebrate crime-free neighborhoods. Organizer Mohan Grover coordinated with area businesses and churches to provide food for the 800-plus attendees. There were burgers, hot dogs, salads, roast pork, clam strips, chips, drinks, Ritas Italian Ice and much, much more.

The event, open to the public, celebrated its 20th year in Shady Side, and 30th year nationwide in 2013. Dignitaries included Maryland State Sen. John Astle (D), Maryland Secretary of Veterans Affairs Edward Chow, Maryland State Sen. Brian Frosh and Anne Arundel County Councilman Jerry Walker.

Mostly, the event was an opportunity for neighbors and friends to gather together, share stories and build community. Enjoy these photos from the event.
