According to Anne Arundel County Public Schools spokesman Bob Mosier, the vaccine will be administered to students in Anne Arundel County elementary schools between October 21 and 31. Healthy children in kindergarten through fifth grade may receive the vaccine at their elementary school with parental consent.

Permission forms were sent home in students’ backpacks on Thursday, September 12. The forms must be returned no later than Friday, October 4 in order to have your child vaccinated.

FluMist, which is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, is a safe nasal spray vaccine that contains the live, but weakened flu virus. Elementary schools across the country with high flu immunization rates tend to notice reduced illness not only among the vaccinated students, but among their families as well.

Parents who did not receive the forms can download them from the Anne Arundel County Public Schools website, www.aacps.org. Additional  information is available on the County Department of Health’s website, www.aahealth.org.
