Fire Investigators Ask Public for Help in Overnight Woodland Beach Residential Arson Incident
Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman Division Chief Keith Swindle said that they are investigating an intentionally set fire overnight in the 400 block of Highland Drive in Edgewater. This is in the Woodland Beach neighborhood just south of Londontown Road and east of Mayo Road.
Swindle said that the incident happened just before 10 p.m. on Monday (Sept. 16). At that time, fire department units were sent for a report of a residential fire. The first unit to arrive reported a fire on the front porch of a home that was occupied. The fire had been put out. Firefighters immediately recognized that the fire was intentionally set and requested Fire Investigation Unit to be dispatched to the scene.
The investigators determined that the fire was an arson. In addition, they determined that the fire was not a random act but was intentionally set.
The fire caused about $8,000 in damage, Swindle said.
No injuries were reported.
