Auditions for the Londontowne Symphony Orchestra’s Young Artists’ Competition Set for Nov. 2

The Londontowne Symphony Orchestra (LSO) will hold auditions for its Young Artists’ Competition on Saturday, November 2. Applicants will audition for a chance to perform a solo at the LSO’s April 6, 2014 concert.

Interested applicants must be Maryland residents in 9th through 12th grade and not be over the age of 19 as of the competition date.

Forms are available from the competition coordinator at or by writing to LSO Young Artists’ Competition, 3111 Shrewsbury Lane, Riva, MD 21140. LSO

Applications must be received by Tuesday, October 15, 2013. There is a $50 entry fee which may be submitted with the application.

Individuals will be notified of the receipt of their application packet, audition time and location by email.

The LSO requires that all works be in the standard repertoire for solo instrument and orchestra. Concertos are limited to a single movement. All proposed selections are subject to approval by the LSO Music Director. Applicants must provide their own accompanist. One original copy of the music must be provided for the judge’s panel. It is recommended that piecesĀ  be performed from memory.

A panel of four judges including the LSO Music Director, Anna Binneweg will choose the winners from three categories: 1. Piano 2. Strings 3. Brass, Winds, Percussion.
