Man Attempts to Steal FedEx Package From Selby Porch, Thwarted by Brave Teen

Anne Arundel County Police said that a 15-year-old boy stopped a man who was attempting to steal a Federal Express package from the boy’s porch in the 900 block of Holly Avenue in Edgewater on Tuesday. This is in the Selby neighborhood. Police spokesman Justin Mulcahy said that the boy narrowly avoided being cut by the man, who brandished a knife when confronted. selby

Mulcahy said the incident happened around 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 29. Police were called to the home for a report of a theft. According to the report, the victim saw a man stealing a package from his front porch and attempting to run away. The victim gave chase, tackling the suspect and causing him to drop the package.

Police said that the suspect then displayed a knife and took a swipe at the victim, but only caused damage to the victim’s pants. The suspect then fled on foot—without the package—along Severn Avenue toward Third Avenue. He is described as white male, 6’3″, with a muscular build. He was reported to be wearing all black clothing and a black face mask.

Police searched the area, but couldn’t find the suspect. Police would like help from the public. Anyone with information on this incident should call Southern District detectives at 410-222-1965.

Mulcahy also said that a citizen’s report on Facebook for shots fired in Loch Haven last night was incorrect. The call was for fireworks.
