Managed Deer Hunt at Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary on Nov. 12
Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks is hosting a managed deer hunt in the area of Jug Bay on Nov. 12 between 5:30 a.m. and noon on Tuesday, Nov. 12. The area of the hunt will be the Glendening Nature Preserve.
Managed hunts help to control overabundant deer populations. Hunters must register with the Rec and Parks at the beginning of the hunting season. Registration for hunters is now closed.
Hunters are selected after completing an application and hunter questionnaire and being interviewed by a selection committee.
According to the Rec and Parks website:
The hunt is being conducted as a natural resource management tool, not a recreational program, and we are dedicated to assuring the safety of the residents in the area and the participating hunters, as well as the humane treatment of the deer. The primary goal is to manage an overabundant deer population… Hunters are strongly urged to harvest as many antlerless deer as they can take safely and humanely.
This managed hunt is not open to the general public. For more information on these types of events, please contact Parks & Recs at 410-222-7300.
