Man Punched and Robbed at Gunpoint on Sands Road in Lothian
Anne Arundel County Police from the Southern District said that a 22-year-old man was taken out of his car, beaten and robbed by several teens around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday night. Police said the incident happened in the 1200 block of Whittington Drive in Lothian. This is just off Sands Road across from the Rio Vista mobile home neighborhood.
Police spokesman Justin Mulcahy said that officers spoke to the victim, who said that he was dropping off a female friend in the area of Sands Road. The woman got out of the car and then a masked suspect jumped into the vehicle and punched the victim, then hit him with a handgun.
“Several other suspects surrounded the vehicle, pulled the victim from the vehicle and punched him several times before taking his wallet,” the report said.
The victim was able to return to his car and go to a relative’s home for help. Police said that the investigation is ongoing by the Southern District Detectives who are looking for several black men in their late teens wearing masks.
In a separate incident off Davidsonville Road near Duke of Kent Drive around 4 a.m. Monday, Anne Arundel County Police were called for a report of a burglary. Crofton Police had found a group of suspicious subjects who ran from the scene. Two of the four were detained after a brief pursuit.
Police found about $5,000 worth of stolen copper wire in their vehicle and it was determined that the wiring had been taking from a construction trailer in the 1400 block of Duke of Kent Drive. Police searched for the other two suspects, but were unable to find them.
The two suspects who were caught, Isaias Jonathan Biera-Sanchez 23, of Alexandria, Va., and Carlos Baudilio Barrientos-Mejia, 29, of Oxon Hill, were arrested and charged with second degree burglary and theft over $1,000.
Barrientos-Mejia was also served on an open warrant for failure to appear in traffic court. The two remaining suspects are described as follows:
- Hispanic male, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt
- Hispanic male, wearing a white shirt and dark pants.
