Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Scholarship Trust
The Trust’s mission is to work with the community to provide the inspiration, mentoring and financial support for first-generation students so they can complete a higher education. The Annapolis & Anne Arundel Scholarship Trust is currently in need of skilled professionals who are interested in volunteering to support our re-launch and extend our services. We are looking for marketing, communications or fundraising expertise and ability to develop and implement a program that will raise funds for our scholarships, programs and operations. The Community Action Agency empowers, educates, coordinates, and assists, qualified people, including families, youth, children, the disabled and seniors in reducing poverty and building a better life for themselves. Their programs promote the birth of healthy babies – Early Head Start, increase children’s chances for success in school – Head Start, improve the quality and accessibility of child care and offer youth free services that provide positive outlets for achievement – Youth Services Bureau. Energy assistance, asset based poverty solutions for families, housing counseling and home ownership classes and help to prevent homelessness are also provided. · Reserve Officer Program: Volunteers are needed for its Reserve Officer program. This is a uniformed position to assist sworn officers in traffic control, administrative duties, community relations, etc. Volunteers must be over 21, undergo a criminal background check, hours of availability are flexible. Reserve Officers work assignments all hours of the day and weekends. A minimum of 16 service hours per month is required and volunteers can be placed at any of the four district stations.
· Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS): The VIPS Program is designed to involve civilian volunteers in non-enforcement roles within the Anne Arundel County Police Department. Members of the VIPS Program share their time and talents performing such tasks as clerical assistance, computer programming, crime analysis, data processing, graphic arts, photography and other tasks as the need arises. VIPS personnel do not wear uniforms nor are they compensated monetarily. Applicants must be age 18 or older, have a Maryland Driver’s License with a good driving record, and be capable of performing a minimum of 16 hours of volunteer service per month.

The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services is looking for volunteers, age 21 and older, to serve as tutors, and provide mentoring. Background checks are required and training will be provided. Emmaus Center is a faith-based organization that supports forgotten people who have no place to call home. It does this through an ongoing relationship with the people they serve helping them rise above homelessness, joblessness, and hopelessness. Emmaus Center is a place where the forgotten people in the area can come and share in the life of the community and find meaning and purpose in their lives. There is a current need for volunteers to help with food pickups, cooking two or three days per week, volunteers to help with cleaning at the end of the day, and for people to help with fundraising events, grants, and managing donations. The mission of this all volunteer nonprofit is to place ex-racing greyhounds into adoptive homes and to educate the public on greyhound and animal welfare. Volunteers, 21 and older, help with public outreach, the newsletter, screening adoption applications, adoption-follow-up, dog-transport to special events, planning and implementing fundraising events and donation drives, order supplies, write routine correspondence, pick up donations, coordinate veterinary care, foster a greyhound during the transition period before an adoptive home is found, and much more. This volunteer-driven nonprofit rescues, fosters and adopts out Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retriever-Lab mixes. Volunteers are needed to assist with Adopt-a-Lab Day on weekends; as transporters of dogs to and from vets; conducting home visits in connection with adoptions; and to provide foster homes for Labs. This nonprofit provides vocational training and employment services to adults with developmental disabilities. Volunteer Instructor Aides, minimum age 18, assist clients with staying on-task to meet production quotas and help them to learn appropriate work skills and techniques. Volunteers who can commit to coming to the Millersville facility, once a week for at least 3 months are preferred. Volunteers, individuals and groups, also conduct job interviews, teach computer classes, assist with special events, painting and maintenance projects, serve on an OBI committee and more. · 6:00–10:00 pm, Sat., Feb. 1, 2014, 16th Annual Mardi Gras Fundraiser: Attendees and sponsors are being sought for the sixteenth Annual Mardi Gras, truly a community event and OBI’s largest fundraiser. For the Mardi Gras Celebration, the warehouse is decorated to resemble Bourbon Street. It is a great “street” party with live music, food, entertainment, casino games, bingo, and a silent and live auction. Mardi Gras is an event full of merriment, laughter, joy and truly an evening not to be missed.
